Ira Walton Well Elizabeth, funny you should ask... A few weeks ago I asked myself and a coworker who also lives nearby that same question. So, we undertook an unsolicited scientific study where we ordered 7 dishes from China Taste (corner of Staring and Highland), and the same 7 dishes from China Bear (corner of Bluebonnet and Perkins) simultaneously. We had 7 people over (all guys as my wife was out of town that evening) to take part in this blind taste test, and we made up scorecards judging each dish on qualities including freshness, meat quality, flavor, texture, visual appearance, etc... Let me tell you, it was a lot of food, and we ended up freezing a lot of leftovers. At first the testers wondered if it was a hoax because the dishes side by side looked very similar, however, once the taste testing began, the differences became evident. Elizabeth Fisher This afternoon I decided to try Italian Pie. They met my three requirements--it wasn't pizza, they delivered, and I could put it on my Visa card. I ordered a roast beef sandwich, which arrived on hot, crispy po-boy bread. It was dressed with mayo, lettuce, and tomato. I also ordered lasagna and chicken parmesan. Those came with salad, and an 8" garlic bread pizza, which just looked like a cheese pizza to me. The salads were fresh and pretty good. Alan tried the lasagna and the chicken parmesan, and while it wasn't Gino's, he said it was pretty good. It was packed in aluminum containers and arrived hot. We had enough for 2 meals. I usually get one of the calzones - the Shrimp Florentine is delicious. I've also had the Roasted Eggplant wrap which was great. My husband creates his own pizza and he is always pleased. Charlie Balch We do http://PapaJohns.com about once a week. If you consider the chicken strips and wings, papa meets your three criteria (not pizza, they deliver, and you can charge it). Unless there is some big event, delivery is usually pretty fast. I think the item we we usually pick is the "family special' but the order is for a large pizza with the works and another with two items which comes out to just under twenty dollars with tax. Some hints: We are partial to the thin crusts, they will do the usual half one thing and half another, online ordering is a better deal than local coupons, and you can change the items on the specials. The came in, covered everything with drop cloths, replaced the faucets and drains, and installed shiny white acryllic tubs and stalls. He built shelves for our home that look like they are original to the house. He's repaired interior walls and replaced a water-damanged ceiling in our home. He installed our locking mailbox, and to give you an idea of how detail oriented he is, he stopped our postman and talked to him about the height requirements for installing the new box. He only works on one job at a time, and he doesn't leave the job until it is finished. With the first project we asked him to give an estimate for, he was twice as expensive as the lowest estimate (one that we felt was underbid), and half as expensive as the highest estimate (which came from Home Care). If our alarm goes off, they call within 30 seconds and the person has to answer the password question OR the police will be dispatched. There is also a panic button if someone comes in with you, which is a silent alarm directly to the police station. There are also other panic buttons, one for EMS and one for the fire department. We wired our entire house, all doors and windows and it was less than $2,000. It comes with 3 years free monitoring. The cost of wiring depends on how many doors and windows you have. My informal method of knowing how well the neighborhood is watched is to see how quickly people get their snail mail. My neighbors get their mail fast. Our immediate neighbors let each other know when we won't be home for some extended length of time and who is welcome in the house while they are gone. I know their grandkids by sight if not by name.
